The grouping came together in 1997-1997 just about Tackett's DJ gigs at a coffeehouse. A multi-instrumentalist whose sour on violoncello has appeared on recordings by B.B. King, Macy Gray, and Black Eyed Peas, Tackett was a funk fan wHO got into hip-hop during the late '80s -- courtesy of the Ultramagnetic classical Critical Beatdown -- when he completed it was keeping the blue funk flame live. A like to act instrumental hip-hop in a band linguistic context brought the group in concert, with Tackett aboard drummer Josh "Wallet" Cohen, reed player Geoff "Dual G" Gallegos, trumpeters Todd Simon and Paul Vargas, trombone player Dan Osterman, keyboard player Carlos Guaico, percussionist Davy Chegwidden, guitarist Dan Ubick, and vocalists Sol Sista DeMya and Mixmaster Wolf (aka Stones Throw boss Peanut Butter Wolf). Their baseball club night, Root Down, brought in crowds, along with the skim off of the rap metro (Jurassic period 5, Dilated Peoples, Company Flow, DJ Shadow, Freestyle Fellowship), and their first single, "Getcho Soul Togetha," appeared on Stones Throw in 1999. That year also brought an intriguing demo called The Live Mix Tape -- including Breakestra covers of a host of deep blue funk classics -- merely an official passing (as The Live Mix, Pt. 1) waited until 2001 and but appeared in Japan. The second base volume followed afterwards that year, and was released on Stones Throw. In 2005 Breakestra recorded a single, Sept Rap, featuring Chali 2na and Soup from Jurassic 5 and Double K from People Under the Stairs, and as well released their third base studio album, Attain the Floor, on Ubiquity Records, with a about alone different lineup. |

Opera manager Edgar Vincent dead at 90 after a six-decade career
NEW YORK - Edgar Vincent, who represented Placido Domingo, Beverly Sills, Mikhail Baryshnikov and a bevy of stars in classical music during a six-decade career, has died following an operation in New York. He was 90.
Vincent died Thursday at Lenox Hill Hospital, Patrick Farrell, his business partner, said Monday. He fell following surgery to replace a stent in his bile duct, and died during rehabilitation from a blood clot.
Vincent was the primary spokesman for Domingo for the past 20 years.
"There are no words to express the personal loss I feel nor the professional loss to the world of opera," Domingo said in a statement.
"I knew Edgar Vincent from the beginning of my career in the U.S. and his impact on my life cannot be measured.
"In fact, I know of no-one who was not touched by Edgar's dignity and humanity throughout the world of music. We will not see the likes of Edgar again."
Vincent managed the careers of Sills and Baryshnikov, and in recent years also represented bass player Samuel Ramey, violinist Gil Shaham and composer William Bolcom.
In an career that landed his clients on newspaper front pages and magazine covers, Vincent was the publicist for sopranos Birgit Nilsson and Mirella Freni, mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli, basses Ezio Pinza and Cesare Siepi, and violinist Yehudi Menuhin.
He managed conductor Erich Leinsdorf and soprano Teresa Stratas.
Vincent was cremated Monday, according to Farrell, who had worked with Vincent for 21 years.
